- IFTA is an agreement that lets carriers report fuel taxes for multiple jurisdictions through a single quarterly return.
Rather than filing separately everywhere you run, IFTA lets a qualifying carrier file one return with their base jurisdiction, which distributes the tax.
The return depends on two records kept all quarter: miles run in each jurisdiction, and fuel purchased in each.
Reconstructing either at quarter end is where the pain comes from. Capturing fuel receipts and load mileage as they happen removes it.
